Gilbert unanimously approved a new contract for its presiding judge Tuesday, offering David Phares $118,000 a year for the next two years.

Phares’ previous two-year contract, which expires Dec. 31, specified a salary of about $110,000 per year. The judge, who has served at his post for almost 14 years, was the subject of an investigation by the town earlier this year after a town employee filed a complaint in August alleging Phares mistreated employees. The town’s report, released in November, cleared him and his administration of any policy violations. Phares said he would sign the contract today.
