According to Maricopa County rain gauges, parts of Scottsdale, Cave Creek and Chandler had received about a quarter-inch of rain by 9 p.m., though the storm was still active.

The day’s record-breaking heat quickly subsided as winds and moisture moved in.

The National Weather Service in Phoenix expects more rain and cooler temperatures through Labor Day.
