WASHINGTON — More than $5.5 million in Recovery Act funds are heading to Arizona for use in fighting crime and drug trafficking as part of the Justice Department's Southwest Border Strategy.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder made the announcement in Washington Wednesday.

Holder says the Recovery Act funding for Arizona will help local law enforcement in joint efforts to combat the threat posed by drug cartels.

The Attorney General says the Justice Department is intensifying its efforts to investigate, prosecute and punish members of violent Mexican drug cartels.
