Gilbert police have found a body in the area where they have been searching for a missing woman but a spokesman won’t say whether it is her.
Sgt. Andrew Duncan, Gilbert police spokesman, said the identity of the body will have to be confirmed through an autopsy.
“We have found a body,” Duncan said.
Detectives are in an area off of State Route 87 where they tracked the whereabouts of Johnathan Ian Burns, the man charged with killing Jackie Hartman, a 19-year-old nursing student.
Hartman was reported missing early Jan. 28 when she was supposed to go to a party with Burns, whom she had met days prior at a gas station.
According to court records, police found Hartman’s bloody shirt spotted with bullet holes, her ripped bra and other items in a trash bin near Burns’ home just after her disappearance.
Burns admitted to police he had sex with Hartman.
He is charged with first-degree murder and sexual assault in connection with her death.
