Crime suspects fleeing from police ran into an unmarked police car Thursday before hitting a pole and narrowly missing a residence.

Mesa police spokesman Sgt. Ed Wessing said officers were doing surveillance on two suspects in the area of Eighth Street and Country Club Drive about 1:15 p.m. when the suspects left “recklessly” in a white Ford Focus.

The officers didn’t pursue the suspects, Wessing said, but they drove south on Country Club anyway and hit an unmarked police car. The vehicle then went over a curb into a yard and hit a pole, nearly ending up in a house.

The suspects ran away, but were captured shortly after, Wessing said.

Both the suspects, whose names haven’t been released, had warrants for their arrests, Wessing said.

An investigation is ongoing.
