Athletes and spectators are gearing up for the Ironman Arizona triathlon coming to Tempe on Sunday.

The grueling race starts at the Tempe Town Lake and gives athletes 17 hours to complete a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run, according to the Ford Ironman Arizona information Web site.
The race begins at 7 a.m. with the swim and continues on to biking and running races. Aid stations offering beverages and food are set up approximately every mile on the run and every 10 miles on the bike race.
Spectators can watch athletes swim from Mill Avenue’s bridges, spot their bikers near the intersection of Mill Avenue and Rio Salado Parkway, or line the streets to cheer runners the along the closed streets and through Tempe Beach Park.
Spectators can also enjoy the Ford Ironman Marketplace, which provides several booths including a showcase of Ford vehicles, Ironman merchandise, Inside-Out Sports retailers/bike services and the Janus Inspiration Station.
