Qwest Communications International will open a new type of retail store in Gilbert Friday at the Crossroads Towne Center, 3765 S. Gilbert Road.

The store is the first in Arizona opened by Qwest to sell hardware such as cell phones and modems and services such as satellite television and high-speed Internet. Customers are able to try the services before they buy, the company said.

Qwest has used kiosks in shopping malls to sell its services directly to consumers but has decided to try a full-fledged store at the Gilbert location, said Qwest spokesman Mark Molzen.

“We feel that customers want to go into an actual store and have that experience,” he said.
