Kids with nothing to do are apparently spending their time shutting off power to various Gilbert homes.

Kids with nothing to do are apparently spending their time shutting off power to various Gilbert homes.

Gilbert police spokesman Sgt. Mark Marino tells The Arizona Republic kids are stirring up trouble in some neighborhoods by opening up utility boxes on the back of homes and turning off the power when it's needed during the hottest part of the day.

Marino says it's something police see on a regular basis because teens and preteens are bored over the summer.

Police urge residents to put locks on their power boxes and watch for suspicious activity.

Children caught turning off power could face misdemeanor charges or citations.
