Police are investigating the suspicious death of a 44-yearold Mesa woman whose body was discovered in her apartment Friday after her sister asked authorities to check on her and her son.
Police went to the Mesa Summit Apartments, 450 S. Valencia, about 1 p.m. and found the woman dead and the 12-year-old boy missing, said detective Steven Berry, Mesa police spokesman.
The woman’s body had no obvious external signs of trauma, Berry said.
The boy, Sean Kramer, hadn’t been heard from since Sunday but was found about 6 p.m. Friday at a friend’s house.
Police wouldn’t release his mother’s identity because her next of kin still needed to be notified.
Apartment manager Miguel Samniego said the woman had lived at the complex at least nine years.
Samniego described her as quiet and said she often kept her head down. He recalled that she once owned ducks, then kept several cats after that.
Resident Paul Vazquez said he often saw her walking the cats on a leash.
Sean’s aunt told police she was worried because the boy was supposed to visit her in Los Angeles on Sunday but never arrived, police spokeswoman Holly Hosac said. The aunt tried calling his mother but couldn’t reach her.
