Work is underway on a 40-bed hospital on Baseline Road, west of Recker Road in Mesa.

HealthSouth Corporation, which specializes in rehabilitation therapy for patients recovering from stroke, brain and spinal cord injuries, and cardiac and pulmonary conditions among other things, will open its inpatient hospital next door to A.T. Still University by late summer, 2009.

The 47,500-square-foot HealthSouth East Valley Rehabilitation Hospital aims to provide inpatient and outpatient programs, rehabilitative care, a therapy gym, and all private rooms.

HealthSouth has five hospitals Scottsdale, Glendale, Tucson and Yuma.
