A Chandler fire displaced five to seven people living in four apartments early Saturday morning, fire officials said.

The fire may have started in an attic of a second-story unit at the Crestview Apartments, located near the intersection of Kyrene Road and Chicago Street, just south of Chandler Boulevard, according to Chandler Fire Capt. Jason White.

The residents in the apartment noticed smoke and called the department just after 2 a.m., White said.

One apartment was damaged by the blaze and three others were partially ruined by water. The cost of the damage is unknown at this time, he said.

Red Cross volunteers offered to house the stranded renters following the fire.

Firefighters are still unsure what caused the blaze, White said.
