Record high temperatures are in the forecast. The official thermometer for the Valley is expected to reach 96 degrees this afternoon and 95 on Monday.
If these projections hold, today’s high will tie the mark set in 1937 and Monday will break the record of 94 last reached in 1990.
Usually at this time of year, the highs are in the low 80s.
To blame is a strengthening high-pressure system over the Southwest.
Starting Tuesday, the weather will cool off but daytime highs will remain above seasonable levels.
