A gang member was arrested Saturday night after making death threats to officers who arrested him in connection with a street fight.
Abel Lorenzo Reyes, 19, screamed, “(I will) kill you for my hood…I will kill your kids” to officers who arrested him Saturday night, said Mesa police reports.
Reyes initially ran from police after a street fight, but was detained a short while later in the area near Southern Avenue and Hobson. Reyes became argumentative and began to scream and yell as officers arrested him.
According to police, Reyes yelled “I have been putting in work for Brown Pride, and Los Mesa Locos gang.” An arresting officer recognized Reyes as a West Side Mesa gang member from previous contacts.
Police said that Reyes smelled strongly of alcohol and was slurring his words and spitting throughout his arrest. Police attempted to record his threats but the recorder failed, according to reports.
A subsequent interview at a Mesa police holding station, in which Reyes made further death threats, was recorded.
Reyes is charged on suspicion of several felonies including assisting a criminal street gang, under 21 with alcohol in system, and threatening and intimidating to further a criminal street gang.
