The Mesa Police Department seeks the public’s assistance in locating a missing 2-year-old boy officers believe is at risk after he was taken by his mother’s boyfriend Thursday morning.

Todd Michael Sturgeon

The suspect, Todd Michael Sturgeon, 38, picked up the child early Thursday at the Ivyglen Country Club in Mesa, and was supposed to return him to his mother by 10 a.m., but did not, police said.

Police said they believe Sturgeon may be using methamphetamines and displaying signs of paranoia.

Sturgeon was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, a NASCAR baseball cap, and has brown shaved hair and a tattoo of a rebel flag on his lower back. He is driving a purple Suzuki Swift two-door hatchback with Arizona license plate No. AEK9609.

The child’s name is Brycen Vangurp and his nickname is “Buggy,” police said. He was last seen wearing a dirty T-shirt, navy blue sweat pants with a gray stripe and has a large scar from a dog bite on his upper lip and a scar on his forehead.

If anyone has any information, call Mesa police at (480) 644-2211.
