Public invited to honor slain Gilbert officer

The community is invited to honor slain Gilbert Police Lt. Eric Shuhandler during funeral and memorial services Tuesday and Wednesday. Shuhandler, a 16-year veteran with Gilbert, was shot and killed Thursday during a traffic stop.

The public visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Sinai Mortuary, 4538 N. 16th St., Phoenix.

Shuhandler’s funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Westworld in Scottsdale, 16601 N. Pima Road.

Interment will follow the funeral services at Mount Sinai Cemetery, 24210 N. 68th St., Phoenix.

A public closing ceremony and reception is also planned at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Gilbert Police Department. 75 E. Civic Center Drive, Gilbert.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations be made to the Wells Fargo account under Shuhandler’s name, account number 1359531975.

Donations can also be made to the 100 Club of Arizona, which supports families in public safety. For information, visit www.100club.org.

Shuhandler, 42, leaves behind two daughters, 10 and 12 years old. His ex-wife, Deborah Shuhandler, is a Scottsdale police officer.
