Wells Fargo & Co. said Tuesday morning that technicians had fixed a computer problem that occurred Sunday afternoon and disrupted many of the firm’s automated banking services.

As of Tuesday morning, all customer transactions could be conducted, but overnight processing has not been completed and customers may continue to see end-of-day Friday balances until later today, said Avid Modjtabai, head of Wells Fargo’s Technology and Information Group.

Using back-up facilities, Internet banking service was restored after being down for about an hour and 40 minutes on Sunday, and within hours customers could access Wells Fargo Phone Bank Centers and make basic ATM transactions such as withdrawing cash and making deposits at Wells Fargo machines, the bank said.

Other services took longer to restore, but as of early Tuesday all point-of-sale transactions and processing for mortgage, home equity, student loans, automated clearing house transactions, wire transfers and remittances were up and running, the bank said.

“Our customers hold us to a high standard of trust and reliability, and we want to assure them that all data about their accounts has remained safe and secure throughout this disruption,” Modjtabai said. “We apologize for the inconvenience this caused them.”
