A man facing several felony charges stemming from an incident inside a Scottsdale hotel room in July told police he was doing drugs before he shot a man in the stomach with a 9 mm pistol and fled.
On Aug. 1, Scottsdale police arrested Robert Staley, 41, on suspicion of aggravated assault, armed robbery and first-degree burglary at a residence in west Phoenix, according to Scottsdale police Sgt. Mark Clark.
The man who was shot, Joseph Faraci, 44, of Scottsdale said he was inside a room at the Homestead Studio Suites Hotel, 3560 N. Marshall Way, when Staley returned to the room about 6:30 a.m. on July 28 with two other people and tried to rob him.
Staley, Faraci and others were partying in the room throughout the night, according to Faraci.
“He put the gun at my forehead and told me to empty my pockets,” Faraci said of Staley. “I pushed the gun away and told him it ain’t happenin’. Then, he hit me in the head with the gun and told me to empty my pockets again.
“And he shot me — at close range,” Faraci said.
Faraci told the Tribune on Wednesday that he spent six days at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn hospital following the shooting, before he was released Aug. 3.
Staley, who has a criminal history, is being held in Maricopa County’s Fourth Avenue Jail, and Faraci is recovering from his injuries.
