TUCSON - A driver hit a group of 10 bicyclists in Tucson during a race, injuring five, and fled from the scene.

Pima County sheriff's Deputy Dawn Barkman says one bicyclist is in critical condition and another one is in serious condition. Three others had non-life-threatening injuries.

Barkman says 60 bicyclists were riding in the El Tour de Tucson at about 10:20 a.m. Saturday when a car coming from the opposite direction made a left-hand turn in front of them.

After the accident, Barkman says the man got out of the car, looked and the damage to the vehicle and the bicyclists before getting back in and fleeing.

The man is described as elderly, about 6 feet tall and 190 pounds. He wore glasses and had a short haircut.

The car is gold or silver, either a Honda or a Toyota. It has extensive damage to its right side.
