Tempe police are searching for a gunman who critically wounded a man Friday in a home invasion.
Police were called to 3730 S. Mill Ave. about 6:50 a.m. after residents of the apartment complex there reported hearing gunfire and banging, according to Tempe police spokesman Brandon Banks.
Officers set up a perimeter but the shooter got away. The gunman wore a mask, police said.
“We certainly do not believe this to be random,” Banks said.
Officers believe the victim, who is in critical condition at a Scottsdale hospital, was targeted because he was shot immediately after his door was kicked in and there is no indication of a robbery.
Banks said the victim was shot in the chest, abdomen and leg, but he is expected to survive.
