Detective Frank Mendoza said the gunshots were reported about 9:45 p.m. at 800 W. Nopal Place near Alma School and Warner roads. He said at least one bullet fired from the assailant’s handgun struck the male driver in the head.

The teen was taken to a Valley hospital and is in critical condition, Mendoza said.

The investigation is ongoing, and Mendoza said police do not have any suspects in the case. He said police have not yet determined if the shooting was gang related.

The injured driver and three other passengers were inside the four-door sedan at the time of the shooting, Mendoza said.
