The Arizona Medical Board voted Thursday to revoke the medical license of a Gilbert emergency doctor who is serving 51 months in a federal prison on 18 felony counts of income tax and mail-fraud-related offenses.

Nine of the medical board's 12 members who were present unanimously voted to revoke the medical license of Carlin G. Bartschi of Gilbert, prohibiting him from further practicing medicine, according to Roger Downey, spokesman for the Arizona Medical Board.

Bartschi, 61, who worked as an independent contractor and practiced in emergency rooms in hospitals in Globe and Phoenix, was sentenced for the income tax evasion and mail fraud charges in October, according to information from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
