This is a cash cow for all politicians. Politicians, special interest groups and lobbiests all love these quarterly cash infusions from those wanting a piece of the action. This will never go away. It's free money for the mental midgets running the country into the ground.
It's time for this, we can't keep spending like drunken sailors on shore leave. The only problem with it is that it is too small, the cuts need to be larger.
As a lifelong Liberal with a capital L ( at least on social stuff like helping the poor etc. ) I am all for the sequester.
Republicans only interest is in protecting the wealthy from paying a dime and they refuse to do anything to help pay the bills they created with 2 unfunded wars ( yes Democrats voted for it because they were LIED to ) and the unfunded Medicare prescription benefit.
Since Republicans are such firm believers in BORROW AND SPEND and to hell with the bills, the only way to solve the problem is with the sequester and FORCED cuts and tax increases.
Both parties will hold to their principles and can tell their base " we didn't budge " and let it go to sequester and then they tell their voters " don't blame me -- blame the OTHER guy ".
Financially, the sequester is exacly what the country needs only it probably doesn't go far enough.
We could cut 50% from defense spending and STILL be spending more than most of the rest of the world.
We should shut down bases in foreign countries that are not threatened unless those countries want to pay the FULL cost of manning and operating them.
Then there would be PLENTY of money for social services and Social Security and Medicare.

It’s President Obama’s sequester, and at stake is $85 billion in cuts set to kick in Friday at midnight.
Obama has now softening his tone and he is suggesting the impact may not be felt immediately . . . If Congress will “kick the can down the road.”
