A Marine pilot stationed in Yuma was among the dozen American and British Marines killed in a helicopter crash Friday morning Iraqi time.
Capt. Thomas "Jay" Aubin was one of four U.S. Marines and eight British Marines who died when their CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter crashed and burned about nine miles south of the Iraqi border town of Umm Qasr. Military officials said no hostile fire was reported in the area.
Aubin was stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, and his wife lives in Yuma, family members said.
Also killed in the crash was the pilot, Capt. Ryan Beaupre, 30, of St. Anne, Ill., his sister Alyse said. Her family was notified early Friday morning, she said.
