The Tempe Community Foundation has awarded more than $20,000 in grants to two local nonprofits to support youth development and prevention services. The Valley Center of the Deaf was awarded more than $10,000 to partially fund case management and transportation needs for the deaf, deaf-blind and hard of hearing population of the Apache ASL Trails housing community.

The foundation also awarded nearly $10,000 to EMPACT Suicide Prevention Center for expansion of the Building Resiliency in Youth program at Tempe’s Connolly Middle School.

The foundation received 19 proposals from nonprofits that completed Tempe’s annual agency review application process, with total requests of $268,000. This year’s grant award was the largest ever from the foundation.
