Job title: Technical Manager for Scottsdale-based Peter Piper Pizza
Education:
Associate degree of Applied Science in Electronics from ITT Technical Institute
How did you get your job?
“An acquaintance of mine knew the general manager of a Peter Piper Pizza restaurant and told me about the position. There are already more than 40 Peter Piper Pizza restaurants in Arizona and they’re opening four more in the Phoenix area this year, so I knew this was a company I could grow with.”
What are your main duties?
“I do preventative maintenance on all the games, including cleaning the insides of the games and checking the switches. I also repair any broken games; sometimes wires will break due to normal wear and tear, or switches will need replacing because people are hitting them repeatedly. Of course, I have to play all the games to make sure they work properly!”
What do you like best?
“I love the variety of work and the interaction with people. I learn something new every day, and I’m not stuck in a desk chair for eight hours a day.”
What skills/education are needed to enter your field?
“Highly mechanical and electronic skills are needed. A high school degree and some additional training are required, along with a love of games. An associate’s degree is preferred but not always necessary. In a restaurant setting like Peter Piper Pizza, you need to enjoy interacting with guests as well.”
