Tempe and some of its high-tech employers are holding a job fair Thursday, Feb. 16 but don't fret about rushing the interview suit to the cleaners by then.
The event is strictly casual, which probably shouldn't be a surprise because it's a component of the technology festival called Geeks Night Out. The focus is for employers and potential workers to network, said Tempe spokeswoman Kris Baxter-Ging.
"No tie, no resume. Show up," Baxter-Ging said. "It is the most casual job fair you will ever go to. It's more of a meet and greet, but it's also representative of the technology industry."
The informal chats could lead to more formal interviews later, she said. Tempe is hosting the job fair as part of its effort to promote high-tech companies in the city, including the downtown offices of Microsoft, Xhibit and Silicon Valley Bank.
The fair is 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the MADCAP Theater patio, 730 S. Mill Ave.
The employers include Silicon Valley Bank, which is opening a Tempe office in June. It is looking for banking operations and IT professionals and in a variety of specialties such as networking, systems engineering and administration, databases, business intelligence, business analytics, java development, enterprise architecture and mobile.
The other employers are:
• Sitewire, one of Tempe's oldest interactive marketing firms.
• Xhibit, a new social media marketing company that is opening Tempe offices in May.
• Terralever, an existing online marketing company.
• TechFinders, an Arizona-based recruiting firm.
It's possible additional employers will sign on, Baxter-Ging said. Employers can call (480) 858-2059 for information. For details about the job fair, visit http://t.co/hs02o53I.
