Retail Corridor: Seattle’s Best setting up shops in Borders stores

Seattle’s Best Coffee is brewing plans to move into 10 Arizona Borders Books & Music stores. Cafes in Borders stores at 1316 S. Alma School Road, Mesa, 870 N. 54th St., Chandler and 699 S. Mill Ave., Tempe, will reopen Saturday as Seattle’s Best Coffee hot spots.

A Borders at the Scottsdale Waterfront, 7135 E. Camelback Road, is scheduled to open in November and will be serving up a Seattle’s Best.

The cafe in the Scottsdale 101 Borders store, 7000 E. Mayo Blvd., on the Phoenix-Scottsdale border, will be transformed to a Seattle’s Best in December.

The cafes will serve the full line of coffee and noncoffee beverages, plus pastries and bakery items, fresh food and warm sandwiches. The cafes also will sell merchandise and a variety of whole -bean coffees.


Arizona’s first Disney outlet store is gearing up for a mid-October opening at Arizona Mills mall.

It will sell Disney-branded clothing, toys and gifts. Look for it in Neighborhood 3 of the Tempe shopping center.

Mills is pegged to get a couple of more stores in November — Amuse, which sells accessories for young women, and As Seen on TV, which sells the products seen on infomercials.


Watch for these new Chandler shops, filling up empty spaces in centers revived by prolific Mesa redeveloper Michael Pollack.

New leases include 15,305 square feet at Mervyn’s Shopping Center, 2980 N. Alma School Road, picked up by Country Sampler and scheduled to open this month, 3,500 square feet at Waterfall Shopping Center, 610 N. Alma School Road, for Woods Construction, and 1,839 square feet at Paseo Del Oro, 3029 N. Alma School Road, snapped up by Sunshine Dance Studio, to open before yearend.

Pollack Business Park North, Arizona Avenue and Elliot Road, one of the developer’s new projects, is a combo retail-manufacturingwarehousing center. It features buildings with showrooms up front and manufacturing in the back.

Just opened are Arizona Spa & Barbeque, Arizona Pogreen, which sells artificial turf, and Action Power Sports.


Chick-fil-A just opened at Scottsdale 101.

Coming to Biltmore Fashion Park in east Phoenix in November: Maria Martin, a beauty and fashion boutique selling cutting-edge cosmetics, skin care, shoes, clothes and accessories.

Signs by Tomorrow, a fullservice sign business, has a grand opening scheduled for Monday at Bell Road and Loop101 in Scottsdale’s McDowell Mountain Business Park.
