Allegiant Air, the primary carrier serving Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, reported a 32 percent increase in the number of passengers during April.

The Las Vegas-based travel company said it served 472,155 passengers during the month compared with 355,498 passengers in the same month a year ago. The number of revenue passenger miles flown increased 29 percent while the available seat miles increased 25 percent.

The company’s planes were 87 percent full on average, up from 85 percent in April 2008.

The figures, which were described as preliminary, covered the company’s total operations including scheduled service, fixed-fee contracts and nonrevenue flying.
