Jim Braciszewski

Job title: Fourth grade teacher, Holmes Elementary School, Mesa, for two years

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, University of South Carolina

INCITE Teacher Certification Program, Arizona State University

Master of Education (Elementary Education) Program, Northern Arizona University

What are your main duties?

“My main duty is to teach my students the skills and knowledge necessary to meet and exceed the state's academic standards. To accomplish this, I must continually find ways to motivate and energize my students so that they love to attend school and want to learn.”

What do you like best?

“My greatest feeling of accomplishment is the moment when a student connects all of the dots to reveal the ‘big picture.’ There's no better feeling than when a child finally understands a concept that I may have explained several times. It's truly exciting to see the children experience that kind of success.”

Any advice for job seekers?

“You really need to be yourself. Having been on both sides of the hiring process, I believe there is nothing an employer dislikes more than interviewing a person one day and having a different person show up for the job.”

What is required to enter your field?

Arizona requires a bachelor’s degree in education or another field plus a certificate. “Additionally, all Arizona teachers must pass the Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessment (AEPA) which measures knowledge in their content area.”
