A recently opened business in Gilbert offers other businesses in the very early stages of their development a more professional place to meet with clients, cohorts and potential business partners.
EZ Spaces Concierge provides new, local businesses in need of a more professional home base to meet up with clients or coordinate business strategies with fellow coworkers. People can lock up a meeting room to talk to clients or can just spend a couple of hours going over business plans with partners.
“The idea is to get people out of their home and out of the coffee shop and get them in an office,” said owner John Mahon.
Essentially, people can pay for access to EZ Space on either a daily, 10-day or monthly pass. A one-day pass gives people access to Wi-Fi, the office space, fax, copy, scan and fax services, free coffee, water and soda, and private phone access. The 10-day option includes all of those options along with access to conference rooms and staff support, while the monthly option adds covered parking, a personal mailbox and 250 business cards, among several other perks.
One-day use is $49, 10-day is $270, and the month is $400. Mahon said the facility is designed to fit businesses of just about any type, ranging from bloggers and designers to attorneys, business coaches and financial advisors.
Mahon said the idea to create EZ Space, which opened in Gilbert in November, came with a bit of inspiration from some similar places in Phoenix, and from his own experience operating his web-based company. Mahon said he sought out a place to conduct meetings with clients back in 2012, but was unable to find anything that fit his needs locally.
That led him to start his own meeting place to serve small business owners like himself who work from home.
“I wanted to create an environment that works for myself and works for others,” he said.
Another way he phrased it is “work for yourself, not by yourself,” which leads to one of the perks of a shared work environment: a direct way of connecting with other businesses. In lieu of attending a function or a conference, business owners can communicate with owners of businesses in different fields to come up with a plan to benefit both sides.
A web designer, for example, could meet a blogger or self-help coach and begin to design his or her website, or a blogger could begin to provide copy for another EZ Space client. Similarly, an attorney could meet up with a real estate agent and add a client, with both having at least a modicum of familiarity with the other.
In both cases, the respective business owner either gains a new client or connects with a person who can make his or her business better.
“As the membership base grows, we want people to create a community,” Mahon said.
