The Chandler Chamber of Commerce has promoted one of its members to its top position of president and chief executive officer.

Community leader and chairwoman of the chamber board Becky Jackson was hired and will begin on May 5. The chamber announced her appointment on Monday.

Jackson is a Gilbert resident, but will move to Chandler to better connect with her new role.

"It is important if you’re going to be the CEO and president of the Chandler chamber, you ought to live in Chandler," she said.

Jackson resigned as president of community banking at Scottsdale-based First National Bank of Arizona; the resignation took effect immediately. She stepped down as chairwoman of the chamber board to assume the new position.

"To get someone like her on board is a real thrill for us," said Karen Cupps, new chairwoman for the chamber and chairwoman of the executive search committee. "When she joins something, she’s not just a member, she gets involved with leadership."

Jackson has held various leadership roles at the Chandler Chamber of Commerce for the past four years, is president of the National Association of Women Business Owners, Phoenix chapter, and was listed as one of the Top 100 Who’s Who of Women in Arizona Business. She is also on the board of the Fresh Start Women’s Foundation and is a member of the board of governors for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Scottsdale.

"This really gives me an opportunity to work with businesses in a nonprofit environment, which I’ve spent many years working in over the years," Jackson said. "When I heard the position was open, I knew it was the right thing for me. It allows me to use my business development, nonprofit and banking skills all together in one position."

Former top executive Donnette Hermes is leaving the chamber because her husband’s job is relocating overseas. She will help Jackson through the transition.

Cupps and Jackson said Hermes will be remembered for her successes in organizing the roles within the chamber, reducing spending and increasing efficiency and involvement. The Chandler chamber has 800 members and continues to grow.
