Through science lessons, tutoring, math instruction and more, more than 40 percent of Arizona’s Intel employees volunteered at nonprofits and local schools in 2011.

Through Chandler-based Intel’s volunteer matching grant program, employees earn $10 an hour for volunteering their time, funds that are given to the organizations they help. Along with the Intel Benefit show, employees generated more than $1.2 million. The largest check — $25,000 — was given to The Girls Leadership Academy, the first public, single gender school in the state.

Checks were sent to the various groups in May.
