Construction will begin Wednesday on a six-story, 197-room Hilton Hotel near Chandler Fashion Center, just one of a number of hotels planned to hit the city in the next five years.
The full-service hotel will include a concierge VIP lounge, outdoor pool with a 28-seat pool-side bar, gourmet restaurant, wine bar and business center with high-speed Internet and Wi-Fi access.
Developed by Western International, the upscale lodgings will cater to business travelers during the week and larger social groups, such as wedding parties, on the weekends, said Mark Van Amerongen, a partner in the Texas-based company.
“When we build full service hotels, we don’t want to build the 700- or 800-room behemoths,” Van Amerongen said.
“We like to build intimate, boutique-style smaller hotels.”
Located on the southeast corner of Frye Road and Loop 101, the Hilton is expected to create 75 new jobs and open in winter 2008.
The hotel is near Chandler’s growing Price Road Corridor with its business parks and major corporate campuses, city retail specialist James Smith said.
It also has easy freeway access and is close to shopping, which make the hotel a good fit for the area, Smith said.
