Almost two dozen new retailers will occupy space in Gilbert’s SanTan Village, an open-air mall and lifestyle center that will be bigger than Chandler Fashion Center, officials announced Thursday.
“And we’ve got a whole lot more. But our policy is that we don’t release names until our deals are completed,” said David Scholl, senior vice president of development for Westcor.
Westcor is developing SanTan Village, the regional shopping hub at the intersection of the Santan Freeway stretch of Loop 202 and Williams Field Road that also includes office space and power centers featuring Ulta, Designer Shoe Warehouse and Circuit City, among others.
Anchored by Dillard’s and Harkins Theatres, the openair mall is almost 80 percent leased, said Bob Williams, senior vice president of development-leasing.
“When we opened Chandler Fashion Center, we were 98 percent leased and that’s our goal. The mall is going to open in October of 2007,” Williams said.
“To be this far ahead when there isn’t any steel in the air is a testament to the merchants’ belief in the Gilbert trade area,” Scholl said.
Among the new tenants are Ann Taylor Loft, Eddie Bauer and Lane Bryant/Cacique.
Overall, SanTan Village encompasses 500 acres. The open-air mall includes 1.2 million square feet of retail space and 90,000 square feet of office space on 100 acres.
The power center portion of the project includes more than 2 million square feet of additional retail space. There also is the potential for a hotel and residential living, executives said.
