The owners of Urban Tea Loft in downtown Chandler have announced they will be closing their doors on Saturday, July 21.
“We’ve always been honest communicating what our family and business is up to. Today is no different,” wrote Glynis Legrand, an owner, on the business’s Facebook page July 12.
The closing is due to Legrand’s husband requiring immediate surgery due to a serious illness, according the Facebook post.
The restaurant opened about five years ago, and is described by owner Glynis Legrand in a 2010 Tribune interview as a no-frills, gender-neutral, homey tea experience. In 2010, the tea loft was named best tea room in Arizona by “The Official Best Of,” a travel-oriented television show that highlights top attractions around the country.
Despite the sudden closing last week, the store will open again Tuesday and remain open with reduced hours until its final closing, according to Glynis’ note. And everything from tea to fixtures and furniture will be sold.
“Our entire family thanks you from the bottom of our hearts for all you have done for us,” Legrand’s post addressed friends. “In case you are wondering, it is our desire to re-open in another location. We will keep you informed.”
The store will be open 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
