According to the Arizona Board of Regents, the three state universities saved approximately $40.1 million on textbooks over the last five years as a result of cost-saving measures adopted by the board.
Arizona State University saved $23 million. Some of the cost-reducing measures include buyback options, use of e-books and expansion of rental programs. Students at ASU saved as much as 70 percent on an e-book option compared to a bound edition.
The measures were implemented to make attending the universities more affordable and reduce the cost of higher education, said Bob McLendon, ABOR chair.
