The July 4th holiday has passed. The middle mark of American summer holidays. With this holiday signals the start for car dealerships to give a serious push to sell the remainder of their 2007 stock to make way for the new 2008’s which are just about ready to be delivered to most showroom floors.

The July 4th holiday has passed. The middle mark of American summer holidays. With this holiday signals the start for car dealerships to give a serious push to sell the remainder of their 2007 stock to make way for the new 2008’s which are just about ready to be delivered to most showroom floors.

Enter the 2008 Honda Accord 4dr and Coupe. This is the year Honda gives its best selling Accord a major facelift and styling change. The Coupe will be the most striking in it’s change from the older 2007 model year. While confirmed pictures of the ‘08 Honda Accord are still under wraps a few automotive designers and photographers have had a sneak peak or two at the new Accord Sedan and Coupe. All agree the new Honda Accords for the new model year will be edgier in style. A raked-forward stance and aggressively styled body will define the coupe. Auto designers say the 2008 Accord sedan and coupe will be based strongly on the concept car shown at this years Detroit Auto Show.

For years Honda has led the way in reliability, fit and finish, and good value for the price in its very popular Accord lines. But Honda, like other car makers worldwide, are looking ahead to more younger drivers who are just now coming into the market and trying to make sure the Accord sedan and coupe never drift towards being “stodgy” or “dated”. If new drivers are to find the Accord sedan and coupe as popular as their older predecessors then they have to be first attracted to the styling. What Honda won’t change for 2008 are features which have made the Accord one of America’s most popular automobiles. A very roomy interior will remain with the new design without making the exterior of the car any larger. Honda will also have front wheel drive while offering 4 and 6 cylinder engine options. The 4 cylinder will remain at about 170 horsepower while the 6 cylinder will grow in power to 3.2 liters and add to its previous 244 horsepower engine. Great news is that while gaining horsepower Honda will also engage better fuel milegage on both its engine offerings, a big selling point in todays world of very high gas prices at the pumps. If you are looking for a hybrid, you’ll have to wait for 2009 when Honda introduces the Accord hybrid by teaming the 4 cylinder gas engine with an electric motor for extended gas mileage.

The 2008 Honda Accords should be in all showrooms by this October. Until then you can still buy and drive a new 2007 Honda Accord with great gas mileage, the awesome fit and finish you’ve come to expect, and save yourself a bundle of cash in the process as auto dealers everywhere are eager to move what’s left of the 2007 inventory. The end of the model year which is now, is a great time to be shopping for a new car!

One great place to shop for your new Accord is at Honda of Mesa. Located at 1320 W. Broadway Rd.in Mesa (between Longmore and Alma School Roads). Honda of Mesa has been selling Honda’s exclusively for 28 of its 31 years serving the East Valley. This is a full service dealership offering sales, service, and parts for new and used vehicles. They also offer free shuttle service, have a kids area at the dealership and offer fresh Starbucks Coffee with the daily newspaper and magazines. The service department is manned by factory trained and certified technicians and offer Early Bird Drop Off of vehicles in for service.

What all this says to you, the consumer, is simple. It may be sooner than you think!

The folks at Firebird Raceway recently held their annual Coors Light Summer Spectacular featuring “Robosauras”, a huge mechanical fire-breathing tricked up truck type monster capable of “eating” a small car or truck. Familes had a great time enjoying the races at the Firebird track and especially the antics of Robosaurus. Pictures of the fun event can be seen at www.firebirdraceway.com. Check out the next upcoming Firebird event which we will keep you posted coming this October 5 - 7. The PSCA event (Pacific Street Car Association) sponsored by Hughes Performance is bringing to you the “Arizona Nationals”, another great family night of racing at Firebird. Watch future On The Road columns for more information to come!
