Allegiant Air is offering 99-cent seats to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
However, there are some strings attached. The cheap seats are available only on one flight Saturday from Springfield-Branson, Mo., to the east Mesa airport. And several additional fees might also apply, including a $14-per-passenger convenience fee if the flight is booked on www.allegiantair.com and checked-bag fees.
The airline also is offering a flight with 99-cent seats from Orlando, Fla., to Springfield-Branson Saturday. So a passenger could theoretically fly from Orlando to Phoenix-Mesa for $1.98 by making a connection at Branson.
"We needed to move an aircraft from Florida to Phoenix to accommodate seasonal demand changes, so we thought this would be a great way to offer travelers an unbeatable holiday travel opportunity," said Robert Ashcroft, vice president of planning for Allegiant Air.
Passengers must pay regular fares for the return flight, he said.
Reservations can be made at the airline's Web site or through Allegiant's reservation center at (702) 505-8888.
