It’s called “The Pounder,” and the 20-ounce hamburger will set you back about $11 at Cheeburger Cheeburger at the southwest corner of Arizona Avenue and Ocotillo Road in Chandler.

Even though the restaurant at Fulton Ranch Towne Center opened for business just Wednesday, the store’s “Pounder Board” already has nine names on it, says manager Stella Baker.

“If you can eat the whole thing, including the bread and the toppings, we’ll take your picture and put your name on the board,” Baker said.

If you’re not that hungry, the restaurant offers smaller burgers, sandwiches and salads. And with malts, shakes, egg creams, root beer floats and vanilla colas, you could just stop in for a cold treat. All meals are made to order, so it takes a few minutes for a welldone cheeseburger, even without the cheese.

DEB/DEB PLUS

Deb/Deb Plus has just opened at Mesa’s Fiesta Mall. This is the first East Valley store for the apparel retailer. The store focuses on hip, trendy clothing for juniors and plus-size girls at reasonable prices. Shoppers can find dresses, tops, bottoms, swim wear and lingerie at the store, which also offers special ordering and layaway. Deb/ Deb Plus is on the mall’s lower level near Sears.

JAPANESE FARE

Ippei Japanese Bistro just opened its doors at the Scottsdale 101 center at Scottsdale Road and Loop 101. Located at 7000 E. Mayo Boulevard, Suite 1090, in Phoenix, the 5,000-square-foot bistro has a bar and restaurant, with the bar typically open an hour after the restaurant closes.

The bistro focuses on authentic Japanese cuisine, with Japanese chefs preparing sushi and grilled menu items as well as salads and other fare.

CHICO’S NEW SPORT

As The Borgata’s remodel continues in Scottsdale, Chico’s opened Wednesday in its new space. Chico’s was previously located toward the southern side of the center but now faces the center courtyard and its signature fountain.

The Borgata is on the west side of Scottsdale Road between Lincoln and McDonald drives. Meanwhile, Sherre’s in The Borgata is closing and having a clearance sale. Customers can still shop Sherre’s at The Summit, on Scottsdale Road a mile south of Carefree Highway in Scottsdale.

PARTY PAD

Want to host a kids party at home just as long as it’s not your home? Then Jennifer’s Party Pad, 505 S. Gilbert Road, Gilbert, is your kind of spot. Decked out in green and purple, the party pad specializes in hosting kid’s events and celebrations of all kinds for youngsters ages 3 through 13.

Parents can set their level of involvement, from helping with many of the details or just showing up for the event. The party pad includes a party store, where customers can order custom-made gift baskets.
