Job title: Detention Officer Sergeant, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department; Education: Pegg has a bachelor’s of science degree in sports management and is working on a master’s degree in leadership.

What are your main duties?

“I am currently the supervisor of the recruitment unit. We have 300 open positions for Detention Officers to work in the Maricopa County Jails and it is my job to find different events and places in which we can recruit new officers. I have seven Officers that work for me and are assigned to attend all of these recruiting events. I get to do a lot of traveling to different states to attend job fairs and recruiting seminars. I would have never thought that when I was hired on five years ago as a Detention Officer that it would be my job to travel around and tell people how wonderful my job is!”

What do you like best?

“I like the fact that there are so many different places that you can work. You are not just assigned to a jail and forgotten about. In the five years that I have been here I have worked at two different jails, the training division as a Recruit Training Officer, and in the recruitment unit. The Sheriff’s Office is a family. We take care of each other. That is the best part of it all!

Most memorable moment

“When I was presented a life saving medal from Sheriff Joe Arpaio for saving the life of an inmate in our custody.”
