VX Roundup 1/15: Freshman Allen drops 31 as Desert Ridge boys basketball upsets Dobson

Freshman Teddy Allen had 31 points as Desert Ridge defeated Dobson, 90-81, in a Division I boys basketball matchup on Tuesday night.

The Jaguars (6-13) trailed by seven points after the first quarter but came on strong the rest of the way. Hunter Thomas added 20 points for Desert Ridge, which had four players in double figures.

Ryan Richardson led Dobson (14-7) with 27 points and Kodi Justice added 17. Mustangs leading scorer Jaron Hopkins didn't play because of sickness.

Corona del Sol 71, Marcos de Niza 37: Casey Benson had 26 points as the Aztecs cruised to the win. Devin White and Richaud Gittens had 11 apiece to lead the Padres. Corona del Sol remains undefeated in power point games.

Chandler Prep 66, Salt River 42: Travis Farschman had 23 points, including seven 3-pointers, and Jake Clydesdale added 18 points to lead the way for Chandler Prep.

Girls Basketball

Paradise Valley 52, Scottsdale Christian 48: Ivona Talie had 18 points and Johna Martgma added 12 as the Trojans held on in a game that was close throughout. Anna Long had a game-high 27 points to lead the Eagles.

Campo Verde 56, Poston Butte 25: Cori Ramos had 19 points as the Coyotes used a big second quarter to pull away. Stephanie Orji (15 points) and Taelor Cruz (12) also scored in double figures for Campo Verde. Beth Barnes had nine points to lead the Broncos.

St. Mary's 66, Alhambra 21: The Knights had no problem rolling to another victory.

Girls Soccer

Valley Christian 1, Tempe 0: Kelsey Reade scored on a penalty kick with 35 seconds remaining to lift the Trojans to victory. Hannah Johnson notched her third shutout of the season in goal for Valley Christian.

Boys Soccer

Red Mountain 2, Mesa 0: Drew Farnsworth had a pair of goals to lift the Mountain Lions. Trey Brown and Max Duran each had an assist.

Scottsdale Christian 1, Phoenix Christian 0:  Jacob Drenth scored the lone goal of the match on an assist from Jordan Dunn for SCA in a big win for the Eagles against a top team in Div. III.
