An area dentist will purchase candy offered by the community to donate to troops serving overseas the day after Halloween.

J. Philipp Family and Cosmetic Dentistry in Chandler will give people $1 for every pound up to five pounds of Halloween candy they bring, and participants are also entered into a raffle to win a new Apple iPod. The candy must be separated into chocolate and non-chocolate items and brought in clear, zipped bags.

All the candy the dentistry collects will be sent to troops serving in foreign countries through Operation Gratitude as part of their holiday care packages.

The event is on Nov. 1 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the dentistry, located at 3230 S. Gilbert Road in Chandler.
