Arizona’s summer monsoon season presents the most dangerous weather of the year in the state.
In an effort to help its audience prepare for the summer storm season and forecast what can be expected to from mother nature this season, ABC15 will air a 30-minute news program, “ABC15 Monsoon Special: Destruction in the Desert,” on Saturday, June 15 at 6:30 p.m.
During monsoon season, weather patterns shift, bringing more moisture to Arizona. That moisture, combined with Arizona’s intense daytime heating, creates powerful thunderstorms, usually in the afternoon and evening. Those storms impose serious hazards like damaging winds, massive dust storms, heavy rain and flash floods.
The official monsoon season begins June 15 and runs through September 30.
In conjunction with the special, ABC15 is offering viewers a 50 percent discount to download its first-of-its kind severe weather mobile phone app.
According to ABC15, the ABC15 Storm Shield app provides accurate and critical alerts and streams live video from ABC15 News during severe weather situations. ABC15 will offer Storm Shield for $2.99 this weekend only, on Saturday, June 15 and Sunday, June 16. To download the app, search “Storm Shield” in the iTunes app store or in the Google Play store.
