D-backs fans have a new reason to root for the home team this summer.
Through the Home Runs for Scholarships program, three fans will receive full-tuition scholarships to pursue the undergraduate or master's degree program of their choice at University of Phoenix.
"An educated world is a better world," said Dr. Bill Pepicello, President of University of Phoenix. "University of Phoenix is proud to partner with the D-backs to grant three individuals the opportunity to further their education."
"The D-backs are committed to supporting our fans in their pursuits for greatness," said Derrick Hall, D-backs president and CEO. "We thank University of Phoenix for providing the funds, and educational resources, for three lucky fans to achieve academic success."
Each time a D-backs player hits a home run in the "University of Phoenix Scholarship Zone" - left field - University of Phoenix will donate scholarship funds to the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation. The program, which kicked off July 15 and will run through Aug. 15, will result in three full-tuition scholarships to University of Phoenix.
Applications for the scholarships are being accepted now through August 15, 2011. Eligible recipients will be chosen by a selection committee comprised of University of Phoenix and D-backs staff, and honored on-field at the Sept. 24 D-backs home game. Interested applicants are encouraged to stop by the Community Clubhouse (on the Main Concourse behind section 134) or apply online at phoenix.edu/dbacks.
