Theater Works is going professional.
The Theater Works Board of Directors and staff made the announcement Monday, saying that the switch from a community theater to professional will make the organization “sustainable.”
“Leaving behind 25 years of community theater is not something one does on a whim,” Theater Works officials said. “This decision has been made because of a strong belief that Theater Works’ future is brightest for all stakeholders as a professional theater — it’s about being sustainable.”
Officials emphasized the shift to a nonprofit professional theater does not mean community involvement is “curtailed; actually it’s quite the opposite, our engagement with all levels of the community is certain to increase.”
Theater Works is seeking to raise a minimum of $100,000 to carry out the transition in its effort to bring professional actors to the stage in Peoria.
