Kids, do you have a school backpack beginning to attract dust in the corner?
United Food Bank in Mesa is asking for donations of gently used backpacks to help kids in need.
From now until the end of June, children who donate their backpacks will receive free ice cream and a certificate recognizing their good deeds. Backpacks can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at United Food Bank, 245 S. Nina Drive.
The backpack program gets food to kids who are at risk of going hungry over the weekend by sending home several meals in a backpack each Friday during the school year. United Food Bank provides more than 500 backpacks every week.
