Prosecutors in Arizona say an Iraqi immigrant accused of fatally running down his daughter last year in what has been described as an "honor killing" will stand trial Nov. 29.
Faleh Almaleki allegedly used his Jeep Cherokee to run 20-year-old Noor Almaleki down along with another woman in a Peoria parking lot on Oct. 20, 2009. His daughter died from her injuries the following month, but the other woman survived.
The 49-year-old Almaleki reportedly was upset with his daughter for being "too Westernized," claiming she had disgraced the family by not following traditional Iraqi or Muslim values.
He's charged with first-degree murder, aggravated assault and two counts of leaving the scene of a serious accident. Prosecutors decided in February not to seek the death penalty in the case.
Almaleki remains jailed on $5 million bail.
