The former head basketball coach at Eastern Arizona College has been arrested on charges related to a sexual affair he is accused of having with a 16-year-old Thatcher girl.

Tim Parmeter, who previously was head basketball coach at Scottsdale Community College, was arrested in Safford last week by police who located him during a traffic stop.

Pima County Justice Court records show an arrest warrant for sexual misconduct with a minor was issued April 8, and Thatcher Police Chief Mark Stevens said he was arrested three days later.

Parmeter, 38, could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Parmeter's estranged wife, Paula, and his 2-year-old son, Ryan, died in a murder-suicide 16 months ago.

Paula Parmeter left a suicide note taunting her husband and blaming him for the collapse of their marriage.

After Tim Parmeter described the tragedy for a story published by CBSSports.com, the girl went to police and told them she began an affair with him beginning when she was 16.

Parmeter was dismissed from his job in Thatcher amid a criminal investigation.
