Defeated 3rd Congressional District candidate Vernon Parker says he will step-down from the Paradise Valley Town Council.

The former Paradise Valley mayor placed fourth in Tuesday's Republican primary to succeed Rep. John Shadegg.

Parker told The Arizona Republic he plans to "disengage" from politics and spend more time with his family.

Parker has two years remaining on his Paradise Valley Town Council term.

The council will choose Parker's replacement.
