"Writing That Works," a conference for writers and editors sponsored by Arizona Press Women, will be 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. May 10 at Chaparral Suites Resort, 5001 N. Scottsdale Road.

Workshop topics and speakers are "Taking Your Novel to the Movies," Katherine Atwell Herbert, Scottsdale Community College film department chairwoman, 9 a.m.-9:45 a.m.; "Publishing Process: Poisoned Pen Press and the Modern Market," Jessica Tribble, Poisoned Pen associate publisher-editor, 10 a.m.-10:45 a.m.; "The New Face of Publishing," Lynda Exley, Five Star Publications of Chandler, 11 a.m.-11:45 a.m.; "Prepress Treatment for Digital Photos," Peggy Boughman Deal, SCC graphic design instructor, 2 p.m.-2:45 p.m. Keynote speaker is Catherine Anaya, KPHO-TV (Channel 5) anchor.

Forum to focus on legal immigration

Scottsdale Leadership will host a community forum on "The Legal Side of Immigration." The forum will be 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort at Gainey Ranch, 7500 E. Doubletree Ranch Road.

Panelists will discuss reform, legal information on how skilled workers obtain visas, and the economic impact of legal immigration on the Valley, state and country.
